The major water problem of rural Andhra Pradesh is the archetype of the Rural South Asian Water Problem: a scarcity of clean and safe drinking water as a result of agricultural pollution produced chemical and biological contamination. Biological contamination produces an immediate consequence of rendering water completely unsuitable for human consumption while chemical contamination, while also capable of immediately rendering water completely unusable, produces consequences which compromise the health of people over time.
