Shaivi Shroff: Before we begin this interview, I would love for you to introduce yourself with your name, title, and where you work.

Naresh Shahri: Right. My name is Naresh Shahri. I live in Bandra West, Mumbai and I am an Independent Distributor of Enagic Water. I will tell you more about myself. I graduated from Narsee Monjee College in 1982 and joined my family business of electrical and lighting. It has been 39 years that I have been designing lighting, I have been supplying lighting, doing consultation, and I am also secretary of Dhobi Talao Electrical Traders Association. Since 2018, I have been creating awareness about quality drinking water through a Japanese Organization called Enagic. So that is about me.

Shaivi Shroff: What is your opinion on the Water Crisis?

Naresh Shahri: Let me tell you a little more about this that I am studying, on the quality of water available in different parts of the globe. Governments across the globe are doing a lot in clean drinking water, and recently people have started thinking seriously about how water can contribute to transforming their health, along with a good diet, exercising, and maintaining good physical and mental health. Your question was, what is happening in the world. In the world, the water which is supplied to the people in the world is contaminated. The water gets contaminated by air pollution, industrial contamination, and abused by the Earth also. The water reaching to the people is not of a good quality, but work is being done by different corporations on water and it has been seen that the percentage of cleaning of the water has gone up during the last few years.

Shaivi Shroff: What are the biggests challenges that the water industries are facing?

Naresh Shahri: The water industry comprises the bottled water, branded, mineral water, the alkaline water, again bottled. What was happening there is a limitation due to the logistics cost and also the package which is, you know, being given with the water, which is not of good quality. If they are improving the packages, like going for BPA free, the cost is going up, where they are not able to stand the competition. We need to have some other solution in the industry, with research going on and adaptation has been going on.

Shaivi Shroff: How do you decide which water system is best for different communities and locations?

Naresh Shahri: According to me, clean water is definitely good, but more than that, whether that water has other properties which contribute to health, that is very important for all the communities. It has been seen that the total dissolvable solids, like if I am talking about India, in different states and different cities, the total dissolvable solids in the water is different. The water is not the same over here. So a lot has been done to change the taste of the water, and Arrow emerged because of that. But there is a problem again at maintenance of reverse osmosis machines because sometimes a few years was below 30, is not good for human consumption, and the quality of the water is bad and that is why it does not contribute to the health, and actually deteriorates health. A lot of other diseases emerge and other things.

Shaivi Shroff: What is the future of sustainability according to you?

Naresh Shahri: Future of sustainability we have to really work a lot and I really appreciate the projects you have taken and impacted so many people, especially children.  A lot is to be done, a lot of work, and I am ready to associate with you on sustainability. Now that will require taking care of the environment. The less and less of zero use of plastic materials in every part, even in the clothes we are using polyester. When polyester goes into the drains, again going back to nature (rivers and seas), the ecology balances are lost. We really have to take care of the environment and use stuff that will not create an imbalance in the ecology.

Shaivi Shroff:Which technology according to you will boom in the next 5 years?

Naresh Shahri: The technology that I feel will boom in the next 5 years will be ionization of the water. Water ionization by the process of electrolysis, which converts water properties and that becomes a healthy water, with antioxidants, alkaline, and micro cluster properties and it is high on hydrogen. Active hydrogen in the water, low viscosity in the water, helps people with health transmission in their communities. That will be booming in the coming times and people will realize the benefits, they will go through wellness and prevention products rather than spending or depending on the hospital bills and the medicine.

Shaivi Shroff: Thank you so much for taking the time for this interview today. It was great learning about your company and your views toward water conservation, purification, and future sustainability. Thanks for reading.
